Until he rounds into playing shape, defensive end Adewale Ogunleye is likely to play in a rotation with Alex Brown and Michael Haynes as he did Friday night.

“Once the regular season starts, guys don’t get as tired as quickly, [but] we’d like to play a lot of defensive linemen,” coach Lovie Smith said.

“That’s what we’ve always done. It’s not like [Ogunleye] is going to have to play the entire game. That was never the plan. He will play a majority of the reps [against the Lions].” . . .

Rookie quarterback Craig Krenzel was his toughest critic after completing 6 of 17 passes for 79 yards in three quarters against the Browns. “I didn’t do some things as well as I would have liked to, but that’s always the case,” Krenzel said. “It’s like learning a new language.” . . . Cornerback Todd McMillon, beaten for a 37-yard touchdown pass by Andre Davis, understands how tenuous his Bears’ tenure could be despite the fact he was competing for a starting position Friday night. “I don’t have a big contract, so you always have to fight for a job,” McMillon said. . . . . . . Tight end Gabe Reid was placed on injured reserve with a sprained left knee.
