Dane County’s executive Kathleen Falk is proposing a $52.8 million rail service that would link Madison to one of the Wisconsin capital’s western suburbs. The proposed 12-mile rail system would use track from Middleton to Madison and new in-street rails around downtown. The proposal is considered the first phase of a larger plan that could include most areas of Dane County. The $52.8 million would come from state and federal sources. Almost half the money would pay for a mile-long loop around downtown Madison.
