William R . “Bill” Immer, age 89, of Des Plains and former longtime resident of Park Ridge, past away Labor Day, September 6, 2004 at St. Matthew Center for Health. Bill was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and particapted in D Day. Beloved husband for 42 years of the late Elizabeth “Betty”; loving father of Joan (Stephen) Duerkop of Park Ridge and Gail (Thomas) Preisser of Dublin, OH; longtime friend and companion of Lillan Mumbower; devoted grandfather of Stephen, Daniel and Timothy Duerkop, Sarah Saxton and Mark Preisser and great-grandfather of Jana and Lulie Duerkop and Lauren Saxton. Bill was born to Karl and Josephine on February 15, 1915 in Chicago. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest. Bill had a successful sales career, he loved the water and lettered in swimming at Amundson High School were he earned the nick name “Immer the Swimmer”. He was a Chicago lifeguard at Foster Avenue Beach and was a life long boating enthusiast. He was founder of the “Lunch Bunch” at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital General Fitness Center. His family and friends will remember Bill as a very loving, supportive and postive figure with a wonderful sense of humor. There will be a private family funeral.
