Something is amiss at Wrigley Field, and it has nothing to do with who is behind home plate or what is falling from the sky. It has to do with the fans. They have morphed into fair-weather fans.
As season-ticket holders I have taught my two boys that the added value of claiming to be a Cubs fan is perfecting the art of being an all-weather fan.
True Cubs fans stick by their team. Since when have we allowed boobirds into the Friendly Confines? Booing someone who is having a bad day or a bad stretch is just not classy. Cubs fans are classy, or at least they used to be.
One day, in the not too distant future, Sammy Sosa will hold a place of prominence in Cooperstown. He is one of baseball’s all-time greatest players. I agree that he is not playing up to his potential right now. However, I put a challenge to the current crop of boobirds. Who among you ever reaches your potential every day? We need to support every member of our team through good days and bad. That is what being a true Cubs fan is all about. I would hate to see Wrigley Field renamed the “Unfriendly Confines.”
