With voters in three communities served by School District U-46 facing November advisory votes on leaving the district, board members have agreed to a request from state Rep. John Millner (R-Carol Stream) for information on the effects of breaking up the district.

“I have constituents on both sides of the issue questioning me,” said Millner, who represents Bartlett, Carol Stream and Wayne, the three communities that face votes.

Board members agreed to gather financial and educational information for their regular meeting on Oct. 4.

A new district could take 10,000 to 12,000 students from the district’s 39,000. Concerns include tax and revenue questions, debt and asset allocation, and legal and educational considerations for both the proposed district and the remaining portions of U-46.

This is not the first time a split has been proposed for the district, which covers 11 municipalities. An advisory referendum in Bartlett in 2000 was defeated by a 2,000-vote margin.
