It seems “Confessions” is paying off for Usher. He, OutKast and Kanye West top the list of the most nominated artists for the American Music Awards on Nov. 14.
Usher got four nods, while OutKast earned three nominations in the pop/rock and rap/hip-hop categories, and Kanye West got three, including best album and best newcomer. Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Jessica Simpson, Norah Jones and Prince each earned two nominations.
In other Kanye news, his “College Dropout” album was nominated for best gospel rap album in Gospel Music Academy’s Stellar Awards, causing a stir among the other nominees.
“It just seems that it shouldn’t have gotten through,” said Jadda Gunn, a member of the music academy. “They should have known Kanye West, Roc-A-Fella records, that’s not [a] gospel album.”
Hmm. Maybe “Jesus Walks” threw them off.
Academy officials admitted to mistakes Monday and said a corrected ballot would be sent out. No word on whether Kanye is being removed.
