A plan for a marina and condominium development along the banks of the Cal-Sag Channel and the Little Calumet River were given a preliminary nod this week by the City Council.

Approval of the concept puts the project on track for an early spring groundbreaking, said developer Arvydas Laucius.

The 40-acre development on the city’s far east side would feature 400 housing units, including 74 townhouses and 84 boat slips.

A restaurant and park also are planned.

The CityCouncil still needs to give the project final approval as the developer addresses concerns about housing density and potential flooding.

Dubbed Fay’s Point, the development is expected to aid city officials’ plans to construct a riverwalk along the channel, which runs along the city’s southern border.

“It will be the start point for the riverwalk, and that will be a great amenity for the community,” Laucius said.
