He admits he’s starting to hear the talk, but Morris coach Dan Darlington isn’t quite ready to label this year’s Redskins football team the school’s best ever.
It’s hard, however, to argue with results. No. 7 Morris cleared another hurdle on its way to a 4-0 start as John Dergo rushed 13 times for 177 yards and four touchdowns and the Redskins pounded Fenton 42-0 Friday night in a Suburban Prairie crossover in Bensenville.
“I know people will start to talk about it, but I won’t do it,” said Darlington, whose team has outscored its opponents 145-6. “We’ve had some great teams. I wouldn’t want to take anything away from them. But this team is certainly special.”
Dergo scored on runs of 12, 13, 36 and 64 yards, and John D’Antonio and Eric Edwards each returned punts for TDs of 66 and 76 yards, respectively, as Morris jumped to a 35-0 halftime lead.
“We know we have something special here,” Dergo said. “This is all a warmup for some bigger games down the road.”
Zach Jones was 10 of 12 passing for 102 yards for Morris. Eric James paced the Bison (2-2) with 76 yards on 12 carries.
