Robert P. Samuels of San Francisco, passed away quietly on Sept. 13, 2004 in his home in San Francisco. He was recently widowed from his wife, Helen, of 68 years. He is survived by his twin sisters, Mary Ellen and Betty Samuels, of Oak Park IL; his daughter, Marjorie Yost of Pearl River, LA; son, Robert A. (Claire) of Valencia, CA; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was born in Chicago, IL in 1913 and lived in Morgan Park, IL until his graduation from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1935 with a degree in Architecture. In 1941 he joined the U.S. Army and served four years with the Corp of Engineers in Persia and Iraq. He retired from the Army in 1945 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He joined the in-active reserve and retired in 1958 with the rank of Colonel. He was active in the American Legion, VFW and M.O.A.A. where he held various offices in these organizations during the past 50 years. He had a distinguished career as an industrial architect with The Austin Co. in the San Francisco Bay area where he relocated his family to Walnut Creek, CA in 1948 and eventually to San Francisco in 1967. He was a consulting architect on the prestigious Marin County Civic Center project headed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Private services were held, his ashes will be scattered with his wife Helen’s at sea.
