You recently ran an editorial saying that requiring additional safety measures for lap babies would not be cost-effective (“Small risks aloft,” Editorial, Sept. 11). Aside from the fact that I personally cannot put a price on someone’s life, there is a very inexpensive way to improve the safety factor for lap babies. It is something I have seen while traveling in Europe. The child sits on the adult’s lap, and a belt extension clips into the adult’s seat belt and wraps around the child. Result: For the cost of a few inches of strap and a buckle, the child sits on a lap and is buckled in.
