Trying to defuse some of the inevitable complaints about taxes, Lake County officials are hosting two gripe sessions.

Called “Understanding Your Assessment,” the Sept. 23 and Oct. 26 meetings at the College of Lake County in Grayslake will be led by Martin Paulson, the county’s chief assessment officer.

He’ll be joined by local township assessors, who believe understanding the tax bill is the first step toward managing anger.

“When property assessment notices are distributed, many residents do not understand what the notice means or what their rights of appeal are,” Paulson said.
