I was reading some of the letters in the Sept. 16 Voice of the people and wonder what all of the “Oprah bashing” is about when, in fact, the giving away of cars was Pontiac’s promotion.
Oprah Winfrey has shown her generosity to numerous people over the years, such as sponsoring students in college, sponsoring children in Africa and giving to many other charitable organizations.
Also, if she had purchased the vehicles, it would have been her money and she wouldn’t need to justify to anyone how she handles her income.
It is very possible that some of the audience members were financially secure and could have purchased their own vehicles.
So what?
As they say, no good deed goes unpunished.
I doubt that those making negative statements would turn down new vehicles if they were offered.
I thought the show was great and it was wonderful to watch the audience crying and jumping for joy.
I wonder why no one mentioned the young lady (who lived in the streets and shelters) receiving a four-year scholarship to the school of her choice and a new wardrobe for school.
I wonder why no one mentioned the family in New York that was given a check to buy and repair their new home and new furniture, appliances and computers.
These things would not have been possible without Winfrey’s intervention.
It is unfortunate that Winfrey’s wealth and popularity are not appreciated by some who seem to harbor jealousy toward her financial standing.
