On Sept. 17 my class went on a field trip to Lake Michigan. We were there to clean the beach because my teacher has adopted 31st Street Beach so that we can help take care of it.
I really wanted to go in the water, but we weren’t allowed to, so I just had fun cleaning up the beach.
There was a lot of conventional pollution. I was especially shocked by how many cigarette butts we found in the sand and all around the shoreline.
Who do we blame for all these cigarette butts? Well, smokers I guess. I can’t believe how often I see grown men and women throw their cigarette butts out their car windows without even a care that they are polluting. Sometimes it’s even a grown-up in a suit looking all sophisticated, but there they are, throwing down a cigarette butt on the Earth.
I say, please don’t litter, especially if you’re a grown-up.
