After laboring for a decade and a half in the lower echelons of indie rock, this Chicago-based ensemble may be cool enough for people like celebrated producer Steve Albini to sing their praises and record their records, but they still work day jobs. The results are impressive, if eccentric, veering from sludgy bass-heavy dirges and mountain ballads to stripped-down, white-knuckled rock songs.
