I read with interest “New breed of bikers rides into danger zone” (Page 1, Sept. 21).

The information was interesting and useful.

As a resident of North Lake Shore Drive who has spent some sleepless nights of late, I wondered what had caused the increase in noise from motorcycles, particularly at 2 a.m.

I have also wondered why the average motorist must abide by the 45-m.p.h. speed limits while motorcyclists do not.

I believe also there is a noise ordinance in the city, which, if enforced, would address this problem.

It seems that police could, at times, patrol Lake Shore Drive (as well as other boulevards) for these early-morning abuses.

Periodic ticketing for both speeding and noise abuse could do a lot to keep our city safer; along with the beauty of the flowers on the parkways, serenity is also a desirable value.
