Thank you for your “No real love” article on the Cubs. I absolutely agree with your analysis. For years, I took solace in knowing that with the exception of Sox and Cardinals fans, baseball “fandom” loved the Cubbies. Last year’s collapse was epic, but it obviously began the club’s transition from Lovable Losers to Whiny Winners. It’s bad enough to blame the loss of a seven-game series on a single play. But more egregious is blaming the loss on Mr. Bartman for doing what 99.9 percent of fans would do in his place.
I am faced with a dilemma. I’m a lifelong Chicago sports fan (supporting the Cubs and the Sox) currently residing in Atlanta, yet the sirens are calling me to support the Cardinals, a team [made up] of good guys who simply play the game.
I leave you with this final thought. The Cubs have done something that surpasses the improbability of going 95 years without a World Series crown. They have managed to turn a franchise beloved by most to a club that is vilified by many.
