The aggravated battery case of Jamaal Applewhite, the Illinois student accused of hitting linebacker Matt Sinclair over the head with a beer bottle in a July 31 bar brawl involving members of the football team, was continued until Oct. 27 after he appeared in Champaign County Court on Wednesday.
Sinclair and defensive tackle Ryan Matha also are scheduled to appear Oct. 27 to face aggravated battery charges stemming from the early-morning altercation at Joe’s Brewery.
Matha also is charged with mob action for joining Sinclair and other unidentified individuals allegedly to punch, elbow and kick Applewhite in the head and body on the street outside the bar. . . .
The Illini practiced amid the din generated by a noise machine Wednesday to prepare them for Saturday’s game at Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium.
“I hate it, but definitely it’s good for us,” coach Ron Turner said. “When we get there it’s no big deal.”
