Mitchell Jersild Overgaard, 73, of Homewood, IL passed away peacefully on September 26, 2004. Beloved husband of 46 years to Joan, nee Marquardt; loving father of Wade (Anita), Kristin (Russell) Bond and Neil (Christina); proud grandfather of Elysa, Sarah, Mia and Peter; brother of Cordell (Gail); preceded in death by his parents Kristen and Rose Overgaard, nee Jersild. Born in Chicago, the 46 year Homewood resident earned his BA and JD from the University of Chicago. Served his country for three years in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps. Devoted his career to practicing civil law as partner of Overgaard & Davis, retiring in 2000. Member of Chicago and Illinois Bar Associations. Civic leader in his community, faithfully serving as Trustee in the Village of Homewood 1965 to 1969 and 1985 to 1995. Commissioner and President of Homewood-Flossmoor Park District 1969 to 1977. Former Homewood-Flossmoor Jaycee, distinguished sevice award. Director of Community Bank of HomewoodFlossmoor 1973 to 1983. Former President and Director at Family Service and Mental Health Center of S. Cook County. Former Board Member of Homewood Youth Council and Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra. Board Member South Star Services 1998 to present. Chairman Homewood Civil Service Committee. Member Homewood Rotary 1972 to present. Member Homewood Historical Society. Elder of Living Springs Community Church and President of Classis Illiana. Mitch will be remembered for his love of life and his insatiable curious nature. As a young father, he shared Indian Guides, Scouts, Little League, and camping with his family. He was a devoted Christian, avid reader, do-it-yourselfer, computer enthusiast, loyal Bear fan. He enjoyed tennis, bicycling and traveling. Visitation Friday, October 1, 4 to 7 p.m. and Celebration of Life service, Saturday, October 2, 1 p.m. at Living Springs Community Church, 19051 S.
