Elton John accepted his Classic Songwriter Award from Q magazine on Monday, but it wasn’t the usual thank-you fest.
The pop singer had a mouthful to say about fellow nominee Madonna, accusing Madge of lip-synching during her live performances on the “Re-Invention” world tour, which earned her a nomination for best live act at the London awards show.
“Since when has lip-synching been live?” Sir Elton said. “Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay 75 pounds [U.S. $134] to see them should be shot.”
John added that his remarks would mean he’d be “off her … Christmas card list,” though Madonna’s rep later said that would not be the case.
“Elton John remains on her Christmas card list whether he is nice … or naughty,” Material Girl spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg said.
Still no news as to whether he’ll receive a Kabbalah holiday card.
