I think we should get rid of Sammy Sosa to make room for some better athletes. (“Hop, Skip & Dumped?” Oct. 5) I’m sick and tired of fans claiming he made baseball popular again, but with a salary like his, those things should not be the focus of the debate. I mean, I make about 50K a year, comfortable, and yet it would take roughly 340 years for me to earn what he makes in a year.
He needs to stop crying and start acting like a professional athlete. Any paid professional would not get up and leave during a game, as it only sends a reaffirming message to his “fans” and teammates. And he wonders why people booed him this year?!
We need to get players like Carlos Beltran, reliable and not completely ego-driven, or maybe a good closer, and ditch Sammy.
Even as a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, no one angers me more in baseball than Sosa because of his antics on the field and off.
