With regard to letter to the editor from Bryan Rooney, “Meigs Field stunt” (Voice of the people, Oct. 11), I am a pilot and I, too, liked Meigs Field. In a different time, or in a different place, I could support it fully.

But the mayor did the right thing. Aircraft using that facility had the capacity to carry explosives nearly equal to that used in the Oklahoma City bombing, and on a faked approach to Meigs, were only seconds away from at least a half-dozen equally tempting targets.

The $33,000 fine is a small price to pay for the security that the current administration of the Federal Aviation Administration would not provide in a no-fly zone as extensive as that provided for Mickey Mouse.
