Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
This is regarding your Oct. 13 editorial “Executing teenagers.”
I disagree with your premise that 16- and 17-year-olds ought to be exempt from execution. I honestly believe that 16- and 17-year-olds, unless they are mentally retarded, understand that murder is wrong. I believe they understand it is a crime.
If society does not keep this group of predators eligible for life imprisonment or the death penalty, then it puts all of us at great risk, because these would-be murderers are considered unaccountable to society and not responsible for their actions and there would be very little to deter their violent behavior.
Call me crazy, but I think it is a very poor lesson to teach our young people.
