Virginia Pratt passed away in her sleep August 27, 2004 at the age of 91 at home with her son, James. She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1912, married Lynn Pratt in 1941, raised two sons, James and Scott and had six grandchildren and one great granddaughter. A 50 year resident of Elmhurst, she was a kindergarten teacher in Addison’s Oak and Ardmore Schools for 20 years. One of her most cherished projects each year was the metamorphosis of Monarch Butterflies – the children watched as caterpillars hatched, grew, spun chrysalis’ and finally emerged as beautiful adults. In 2001, she moved to Port Charlotte, Florida in the loving care of her son, James and daughter-in-law, Sandra. She enjoyed exploring Florida and loved to watch birds and butterflies on the tropical flowers. Two weeks before passing, she watched and survived, hurricane Charlie through clear storm panels. Jim and Sandra mourned and received the Lord’s protection as they weathered Frances, Ivan and Jeanne without harm or damage to their home. Virginia has been a blessing to many and will be missed by family, friends and children who are comforted in the knowledge that she is at peace, being born to eternal life and now dwells in the house of the Lord all the days of her life. A Memorial Celebration Service for Virginia Pratt will be held at The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 116 East Church Street, Elmhurst on Sunday, November 7, 2004 at 1:30 p.m.
