In your gushing praise for Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in “Sharon’s gutsy Gaza gamble” (Editorial, Oct. 27), you seem to have glossed over that if it weren’t for Sharon’s leadership in the settler movement, there might be fewer settlements to abandon.

He is, at best, cleaning up some of the mess he helped create.
