There were sighs of relief when Lake Villa Township Supervisor Dan Venturi didn’t ask anyone to pose nude for a calendar to raise money for the Lake Villa Historical Society.
Following an example depicted in the movie “Calendar Girls,” other groups have taken the bare-it-all-for-a-good-cause approach, including the McHenry County Historical Society.
“No, he didn’t, thank goodness,” Alice Brownlee, secretary of the Lake Villa group said of Venturi’s suggestion for a calendar. “We heard that McHenry did that and thought, `Oh my!'”
Venturi proposed something less risque, namely duplicating some of the society’s old photos.
He got a dozen Model A Fords from a local car club, invited three recent winners of the Miss Lake Villa pageant to pose in period costumes and shot enough pictures for a calendar.
The historical society hopes to have it ready in time for 2005.
“I’m not even a member,” said Venturi. “I just thought it was a great idea.”
