Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
Many of those who write letters to the editor “mention” their education, occupation or affiliation. They expect that readers will give special credibility to someone who is a doctor, a president of some organization, a former teacher, etc. Is anyone impressed? I value writers who express good insights and questions, without having to claim a spurious superiority because of status. I would like to see the Tribune establish a policy of not printing letters that contain such self-promotion.
As a former second-string catcher on a Little League team, I ought to know.
