In response to Kevin Williams’ column about the Terrell Owens skit, I agree that the controversy is about black and white. (“Are you really ready for this?” Nov. 18) I personally don’t like seeing black men with white women and that is not because I am a bitter black woman who lost her man. In fact I am too young to even have a man.
But the whole concept of the skit: Terrell giving up his responsibility to the team–his job– to be with a white woman (the ultimate dream woman) is such a freakin’ stereotype: A black man cannot, will not turn down a white woman. Unfortunately it just reinforces in the minds of my young black brothers that they should want a white woman, when they need to be focusing on their own community and culture.
