Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It’s that time of the year when fantasy football players get ready for the postseason and the rest of us get ready to flick rubber bands at their heads while they stare and mutter over their rosters on the computer screens.

But I have a confession to make. This season I joined a fantasy league and, if I may be so bold, I put together quite the little gridiron squadron.

Right off the bat, I drafted the offensive line for the Jacksonville Jaguars. No, they don’t score much, but they’re a fun bunch of guys to have around. And, like me, they eat like pigs.

At quarterback, I went old-school and selected Randall Cunningham, the canon-armed passer from UNLV. He later told me via e-mail that he is retired–hasn’t taken a snap since 2001. Who knew? Nice fellow, though. We write often.

My running back situation would have been much better if I had

chosen some. Instead, I took long-snappers. You play this game of fantasy football with your gut, not your heart.

Finally, kickers. Nobody in my league understood me when I took Freddy Adu, but then I’ve been misunderstood for years. Who’s laughing now?

Good times, good times. And here now, the picks.

Bears (5-7) at Jacksonville (6-6)

Noon, WFLD-Ch. 32

Things you should know: What a difference a week makes. Bears QB Chad Hutchinson is unbeaten as a starter in Chicago and ex-Bears backup Chris Chandler is in now the starter in St. Louis. Weird. Anthony Thomas and starter Thomas Jones got 15 carries each last week (that’s 30 total), and they’ll need to pound a Jags team that has won seven of their last 10 home games. Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio cites the 1985 Chicago Bears as greatest team he ever played against. Yes, well, thanks for the reminder.

The line: Jaguars by 7

Over/under: 34

Final shake: Bears.

Seven? No. Six, maybe. But not seven.
