Not only has Christmas gift-giving gotten out of hand with the deluge of trinkets exchanged, but also we now are faced with a rain of rubber bracelets being sold for different causes, according to a recent article in the Chicago Tribune (“Wearing your cause on your wrist,” Tempo, Dec. 10).

Although the bracelets, like the ubiquitous magnetic ribbons for cars, may raise money for worthy causes, shouldn’t supporters just donate money directly to these charities and forego the trinkets?

All these trinkets will eventually clutter up landfills anyway.

All of a donor’s money should go to the charities instead of having a portion of it going to trinket manufacturers.

Just say no to the ongoing commercial “trinketization” of America.
