Phil Hersh is right: Ron Zook did indeed pick the wrong spot–when he accepted the position as head coach at Florida (Tribune, Dec. 14). The fireronzook.com Web site that an anonymous UF alumnus started up the minute Zook was hired reveals that Florida is a football team first, a university second, and that many in the UF community base their self-esteem on the Gators’ won-lost record because they lack meaningful lives of their own.
Clearly, Zook didn’t belong at a football factory like UF–he belonged at a true university like the U of I.
