In cooperation with the U.S. Product Safety Commission, the Procter & Gamble Co. has announced the voluntary recall of its Sweep+Vac battery-operated upright vacuum cleaner by Swiffer.
The recall comes after Procter & Gamble received 14 complaints of Sweep+Vacs overheating, including one report of a small fire with minor property damage.
In addition to halting all sales of the portable vacuum cleaners, Procter & Gamble is urging consumers who own the devices to stop using them. Procter & Gamble also is asking owners to disable their Sweep+Vacs by removing the top section of the pole containing the handle. This eliminates any possibility of the unit overheating.
