Wheeling officials are considering a business facade improvement program, funded with revenue from the village’s Crossroads tax increment financing district.

Under the proposal, businesses in the district could apply for grants to help pay for facade and signage improvements. About $50,000 a year would be allocated to the grant program, and individual grants would pay up to 50 percent of the cost of an improvement.

Proposals would be reviewed by a five-member committee, with representatives from the Economic Development Commission, the Plan Commission, the Community Development Department and other village staff members. Trustees are expected to vote on the proposal Jan. 10.
