Florida basketball staff assistant Major Parker and a co-defendant have been indicted in Gainesville, Fla., on drug charges.

Parker and Farrah Stephanie Moise were indicted Tuesday on one count of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine, and five counts of distributing cocaine, said Jerry Sanford, the managing assistant U.S. Attorney in Gainesville.

The first and sixth counts of the indictments carry a minimum of five years in prison and a maximum of 40. The other counts carry sentences of one to 20 years.

Parker and Moise were arrested Dec. 7 for allegedly trying to sell half a kilogram of cocaine for $12,800 to an undercover Gainesville Police Department officer.

– On the court, the Gators will be without leading scoring Matt Walsh for at least a month because of an ankle injury.

Walsh’s high-ankle sprain turned out to be worse than originally diagnosed and coach Billy Donovan said the 6-foot-6-inch junior guard could miss up to six weeks. Walsh, averaging 16 points in 10 games, also has torn ligaments.

Good news for Wolfpack

North Carolina State’s Julius Hodge is expected to return to the lineup for Sunday’s Atlantic Coast Conference opener against Miami after missing one game with a sprained ankle. Hodge, who returned to practice Tuesday, injured his right ankle last week against St. John’s and did not play against West Virginia. The Wolfpack (10-3) lost both games and fell out of the Top 25.

Indiana freshman out

Indiana freshman center Lucas Steijn was declared ineligible for the second semester. Although Steijn will not be allowed to play, he will continue to practice with the Hoosiers.

Steijn, a 6-10 freshman from the Netherlands, had not played in any of the Hoosiers’ first 11 games.
