BMW will idle is South Carolina assembly plant in late November for up to four weeks to convert from two assembly lines producing the Z4 roadster and X5 sport-utility vehicle to one line flex line producing a roadster and an SUV, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports, a trade publication. Production should resume in January of next year. BMW said the conversion will allow it to change the production mix from roadsters to SUVs based on demand.
