It didn’t seem to matter which player Young coach Corry Carter used in the Dolphins’ matchup with Public League rival Marshall Tuesday.
Eleven of them wound up scoring as the area’s No. 1 team ran away to a 60-37 victory over the visiting Commandos (12-6, 2-2).
Danielle Campbell led the Dolphins (10-1, 5-0 Windy City) with 12 points and 13 rebounds and Erin Dickerson hit three three-pointers for nine points.
Amanda Thompson had five points and nine rebounds, leading Young to a commanding 41-22 rebounding edge.
Then the Dolphins proved how deep they are as Rovina Broomfield (10 points) and Kamille Buckner (eight) came off the bench to provide valuable minutes.
“I know that I can play hard and somebody can come in for me if I’m tired,” said Dickerson, whose three-pointer in the closing seconds of the first half gave Young a 29-16 lead at the break.
As Dickerson pointed out, she had only been on the winning side once–when Young ousted Marshall in last season’s state playoffs– in this rivalry. So this victory was treasured by the Northwestern signee.
“We have to get up for games like this, not only for our city respect but for our self respect,” she said.
Britney Jones led the Commandos with 17 points.
