Who’s in it: Hayden Panettiere, M. Emmet Walsh, voices of Michael Clarke Duncan, Frankie Muniz, Dustin Hoffman, Whoopi Goldberg
What it’s about: Stripes (Muniz), a baby zebra abandoned on a farm, likes to run and wants to become a racehorse just like the thoroughbreds he sees at the adjacent farm. What he doesn’t know is that he’s not a horse, and a Shetland pony (Hoffman) and Franny the goat (Goldberg) are both too sage to dash his hopes. But the mean old horses next door are a lot less sympathetic.
Worth watching? (star)(star)
“A perfectly good movie for 5-year-olds–the only ones who won’t recognize its barn’s worth of cliches or the fact that about 11 different zebras play the title role–‘Racing Stripes’ makes a good case for taking children’s entertainment out of the hands of directors and producers in arrested development.”
