This is regarding “6-month delay is sought for Ryan trial” (Metro, Jan. 14). Since when is it up to a defense attorney to decide when a defendant goes to trial? (As the story stated, Dan Webb, Ryan’s counsel of choice, is tied up in the government’s case against cigarette manufacturers.) I would expect that a lawyer would collect a much bigger fee from a $280 billion case than defending a politician on trial for corruption. The public’s right to seek justice in a timely manner far outweighs a lawyer’s right to have his cake and eat it too. The Ryan trial has been delayed too long.
