Sophomore forward P.J. Tucker, the leading scorer and rebounder for No. 15 Texas, is academically ineligible and will miss the rest of the season.

Tucker, averaging 13.7 points and eight rebounds per game, will stay in school and be allowed to practice but is not eligible for competition.

A team spokesman also said starting freshman center LaMarcus Aldridge remains out indefinitely with a hip injury. He missed Texas’ win over No. 5 Oklahoma State on Monday.

University officials have refused to comment on details of Tucker’s academic problems, citing federal privacy laws. Tucker acknowledged that he did not earn enough credit hours to stay eligible.

Player dies

Eastern Connecticut guard Antwoine Key died Thursday night after collapsing during the opening minutes of a game at Worcester (Mass.) State.

Emergency personnel tried to revive Key, 22, and rushed him to a Worcester hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Eastern officials said.

It was not immediately clear what caused Key to collapse.

Razorback review

The Southeastern Conference said it would review whether officials made the right call by disallowing a three-point basket by Arkansas’ Michael Jones with 1.8 seconds left that would have given the Razorbacks their first conference victory on the road in nearly two years.

LSU beat Arkansas 66-63 in overtime Wednesday after officials made a call Arkansas coach Stan Heath said compromised the integrity of the game. The three-man crew changed a three-pointer to a two-pointer in an apparent 59-58 Arkansas win in regulation.

DeWayne Peevy, the SEC’s associate director for media relations, said basketball officials supervisor Dan Guthrie should receive videotape of the game Friday.

Seton Hall transfer

Forward Mike Pilgrim has transferred from Cincinnati to Seton Hall, according to Pirates coach Louis Orr.
