US SAILING has tapped Charles Leighton, of Middletown, R.I., to become executive director effective Monday. Leighton has competed in national championships and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, as well as the U.S. Junior Triplehanded Championship (the Sears Cup). He has been chairman of an America’s Cup syndicate and has won several offshore races, including the Marblehead-Halifax race. He is a director of MetLife.
