Pennsylvania’s groundhog weather forecaster Punxsutawney Phil might want to stay in his burrow this year. There’s a new hog on the scene–Windy City Woodie.
“This is a historic event in the world of groundhogs,” said Woodie’s spokesman, Bob Haisman. “Those other guys are minor-league players compared to Woodie.”
Woodie will partake in a forecasting ceremony at Navy Pier early Wednesday. If he emerges and doesn’t see his shadow, he’ll stay out and usher in an early spring. But if he spots his shadow, it will scare him back into hibernation, and we’ll have six more weeks of winter.
The event is sponsored by the Chicago Flower and Garden Show, which Woodie may attend in March.
