Two letter writers in the Jan. 31 Voice of the people expressed their admiration for the nuns teaching classrooms of 50 or more students. The way I see it, the nuns really had no choice. I don’t doubt they wished they had more to teach a class so packed full of children than crowd control. The schools were (and still are) overcrowded, and any teacher who can handle it is not fulfilling teaching responsibilities so much as babysitting services.
