Sean Roy Hanney, of Roswell, GA, loving father, husband and inspiration to many, died Tuesday, Jan. 25 at Manor Care of Marietta. He was 51. Sean, the husband of Louisa Camp Hanney, leaves three children, Patrick, Kerry and Gregory; he also leaves his mother, Elizabeth Hanney of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and four brothers, Terry Hanney (Mary) of Des Plaines, IL, Bryan Hanney (Cheryl) of Memphis, TN, Corey Hanney (Donna) of Baton Rouge, LA and Michael Hanney of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 30 at Roswell Funeral Home, Roswell, GA, with interment in Green Lawn Cemetery. Father Frank McNamee and Father Leonard Oglesby were celebrants. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Canine Assistants of Alpharetta, GA, c/o Tib Holland, 3160 Francis Rd., Alpharetta, GA 30004. Born in 1953 in Forest Park, IL, Sean was the second of five children of Elizabeth and Francis Hanney. His family moved to Louisville, KY and Knoxville, TN, and along the way Sean’s Irish humor and athletic talents won him many friends. After graduation from Knoxville Catholic High School he was selected by the Kansas City Royals for the Baseball Academic Program, but chose a baseball scholarship at Christian Brothers University in Memphis instead. Sean’s knowledge of baseball trivia and astounding memory provided him much enjoyment and a special circle of friends in his later years. Sean graduated magna cum laude from CBU and enrolled in the University of Memphis Law School. After a short period (he always said it was the memorable 1975 World Series), he realized that business management was his strongest suit and launched his career in the building materals industry with Owens Corning Fiberglass. He married his college sweetheart, Louisa Marie Camp, on Nov. 15, 1975 and they began a marriage that spanned 29 years. Together they followed Sean’s career advancements to district and national sales positions with Owens Corning and GAF Materials Corporation in Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey and Georgia. Whether it was just exchanging a good joke now and then or making a quick phone call while passing through, Sean made a point of maintaining his friendships all over the country. Sean’s greatest pride was his three children and they will remember his leprechaun jokes and pranks. When he wasn’t coaching soccer or baseball, Sean enjoyed running and completed the Chicago Marathon, plus many other distance competitions. He made light of the constant references to his movie star looks, but took his healthy lifestyle seriously. Parkinson’s disease may have taken away his mobility, but not his desire to make the most of every day. His canine assistant, Loree, an adorable golden retriever, became his social director, and through her Sean continued to make many new friends. His team of “dog walkers” kept him busy each day. Their visits became the focus of his daily agenda and Sean’s family is deeply grateful for their steadfast support. Sean also became a spokesperson for Canine Assistants of Alpharetta and was featured by an Atlanta television station on the use of canine assistants for those afflicted by Parkinson’s disease. Sean, may God grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you. Thank you God for our most loving, kind and devoted husband and father. Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd.
