Edward W. “Ed” Poplar, 78, resident of Davenport, IA. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Davenport at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 until 5 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Mr. Poplar died on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at Meadow Lawn Nursing Center, Davenport after an extended illness. Edward William Poplar was born July 9, 1926 in Chicago, a son of Edward W. and Lorraine, nee Feyen, Poplar. He was united in marriage to Ellen S. Courtenay on Oct. 4, 1947 in Chicago. Ed proudly served our country during World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines. He retired in 1989 from the Charles Levy Co., Chicago, where he had been a Circulation Manager. Memorials can be made to the Greater Iowa Quad Cities Chapter Alzheimer’s Association, 736 Federal Street, Suite 2318, Davenport, IA. 52803. Survivors include his wife, Ellen; a daughter and son- in-law, Diane and Tom Cech of Burbank, IL; and sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom Poplar, Davenport and Donald and Milly Poplar, Worth, IL; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
