In his article “Cubs going for Ordonez makes sense,” Phil Rogers refers to Magglio Ordonez as “the 31-year-old White Sox castoff.” During the 2004 season, the Sox offered Ordonez a five-year $70 million deal, which he threw back into their face, and then went out and hired the supreme greed monger, Scott Boras, as his agent. So it wasn’t the Sox who cast off Ordonez, it was the other way around. But I do agree with Rogers that the newborn “me-first” Ordonez would be an exact fit into that right field “me-first” hole dug by one Sammy Sosa.
