– An exhibit tracing the history of the automobile using more than 100 model cars is on display at the Northlake Public Library through Feb. 11. Among the notable models are the 1887 Selden. The display also includes the 1902 Rambler, 1914 Stutz Bearcat, 1942 Willys Jeep, 1943 Buick Hellcat tank, 1949 DeSoto, 1954 Kaiser, 1955 Mercury Colony Park, 1959 Studebaker and 1966 Chrysler Imperial. Ron Merkel, proprietor of Merkel Model Car Co., in Franklin Park, created the exhibit with cars from his collection. Library hours are 9 a.m to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Call Merkel at 847-455-1495.

– The Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 2-12, Chicago, will offer classes in boating safety, skills and navigation to the public this winter and spring. Sailing and Seamanship will run 13 consecutive Mondays, starting Feb. 14. It will be held at IBEW Union headquarters 600 W. Washington, St., Chicago, where there’s free parking.
