In matters of life and death, timing is everything. Quick action by security officers at Chicago Ridge Mall on Christmas Eve saved the life of an 80-year-old man.
The Village Board recently honored eight mall employees for their response to a call for help in the mall theater.
The employees arrived on the scene, performed CPR on the Hickory Hills man, who had gone into cardiac arrest, and delivered a shock from a defibrillator. In less than three minutes, they had revived him, said firefighter/paramedic Jeff Babcock. The heroic officers are Tom Czarnecki, Mike Dill, Jorge Gonzalez, Jesse Muzquiz, Adam Nasadowski, Larry Pornykalski, Tim Ryan and Max Toledo. Babcock declined to identify the man, but said he has had a pacemaker installed.
