The chance to knit for a better world may be coming soon to a retirement community near you.
Thanks to senior Girl Scout Caitlyn Kamm of LaGrange, 16, young and old alike are knitting squares, some as small as 6 inches by 6 inches, that will be assembled into afghans for the homeless.
Kamm, who learned to knit from her grandmother in elementary school, is spearheading the project in an effort to earn a Gold Award, the Girl Scouts’ highest honor.
The Lyons Township High School junior hosted the first of three knitting bees at Hinsdale’s Washington Square retirement community on Jan. 22. Upcoming sessions will be at Plymouth Place in LaGrange Park and at British Home in Brookfield.
