Anti-Iraqi war activists have submitted a new application for a protest march on Michigan Avenue with a revised route after the city rejected their first proposal, and a hearing officer upheld that decision.

The activists now propose to march down Michigan from Walton Street to Adams Street and then to the Federal Plaza at Adams and Dearborn Street on March 19, the second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.

Their first proposal called for a march along Michigan and State Street. Citing the disruption of pedestrians, business and traffic, as well as the city manpower needed, the Chicago Department of Transportation and a hearing officer rejected that proposal.

CDOT spokesman Brian Steele said officials in his department would consult with Chicago police and make a decision on the new application by early next week. If the city does not approve the new application, the Chicago Coalition Against War and Racism will consider an appeal of the first denial in court, said Charles Nissim-Sabat, the group’s attorney.
