Florence J. Dwyer, nee Kodidek, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 9. Born in Chicago on March 1, 1913 to Anna and Joseph Kodidek. She graduated from Lindbloom High School and Northwestern University, Medill School of Journalism. She also held degrees from Western Reserve University. She was one of the first 50 women in the Chicago area to join the U.S. Navy (WAVES) during World War II. She served in Cleveland, OH for 6 years as a Chief Petty Officer. She lived in Cleveland, where she served on the Cleveland Police Dept. for 11 years. She also worked for the City of Cleveland before retiring. She had lived in Indianapolis, IN since April of 1995. She was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. Burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Worth, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Dwyer; her parents; sisters, Gertrude Kodidek and Berniece Daggett; and a brother, Kenneth. She is survived by a cousin, Clarence J. Votava of Indianapolis, IN; and nephew, Douglas Daggett of Murphysboro, IL.
