James Ryan Green. November 4, 1939 – February 8, 2005. Attorney, Heart Transplant Survivor. James R. Green, 65, formerly of Woodstock, IL, died at his home in Fontana, Wisconsin, Tuesday evening. He was born November 4, 1939 in Woodstock, IL to James Ryan and Helen (Bolger) Green. In 1963, James married Mary Belle Harding in Woodstock. James is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Belle (Harding), Fontana, WI; five children, Clancy Patrick, Walworth, WI, Michael Shaemus (Ann) of Madison, WI, Kelly Kathleen, Denver, CO, Erin Mary (Brian Ptacek), Fontana, WI, Daniel Ryan, Walworth, WI; and seven grandchildren, Patrick, Kevin, Meghan, Kersten, Connor, Ryan and Sean Michael; as well as a brother, Thomas of Minneapolis, MN, and sister, Erin (Groden) of Woodstock, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents James Ryan and Helen Green. James attended and graduated from Loras Academy and went on to graduate from Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa in 1960. In 1963, he graduated from Northwestern University Law School. James was admitted to the Illinois Bar Association in 1963 and admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the U.S. Supreme Court. In 1963, James began his career with the Law Office of Gates W. Clancy in Geneva, Illinois. In 1965, he became an Associate with the Law Firm of Joslyn, Kell & Conerty in Woodstock. In 1967, James and David R. Joslyn formed the firm of Joslyn & Green, which later became Holmstrom & Green where he practiced until 1986. From 1989 – 1992, James practiced with the Law Firm of Jenner and Block in Lake Forest, IL. In 1992, James founded Kilkenny Real Estate Services, L.L.C., a commercial real estate brokerage firm. Throughout his career James was active in the banking and real estate professions including serving as a Director for the First National Bank of Woodstock; Plum Grove Bancorporation, Inc., and McHenry County Title Company. James specialized in real estate and litigation law and served as a Member of 1978 Policy Owners Examining Committee of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company; a Member of the Hearing Board of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois from 1977-1979; as well as a member of the Chicago, McHenry County, Illinois and American Bar Associations. James was an avid supporter of St. Mary School in Woodstock, Marian Central Catholic, Woodstock, Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN, the University of Notre Dame, as well as Loras College, Dubuque, IA, where he served on the Board of Trustees. James survived many health challenges over the past 15 years including receiving a heart transplant on April 25, 1992 at St. Lukes in Milwaukee, WI. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2005 at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home in Woodstock. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2005 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Hartland. Interment will follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock. Memorials can be made to St. Mary Catholic School, Marian Central Catholic High School or Loras College.
